What ever it means to you, I wish you so much Hygee in this new year!
Happy New Year everyone! This year my goal is to spend more time appreciating the simple things in life. Have you ever heard of the term Hygge? It incompasses all things that make you happy, warm, and content. This could be lighting a candle on your table for a warm soft relaxing glow. It may mean simmering a pot with a cinnamon stick and some orange peels on your stovetop for an aroma that makes you feel warm and happy. It may be snuggling with your spouse, partner, kiddos or fur baby on the couch.
What ever it means to you, I wish you so much Hygee in this new year!

What a challenging year that was, and continues to be. We have all faced so many difficult situations recently with Covid-19. Some more than others. Today, I would like to take a moment to recognize our kids. They were put into stressful situations day after day...and they perservered! Great job kiddos! Teach your child to take long, slow breaths when they are feeling overwhelmed. Then try to remember to do the same for yourself:) Tell your child how proud of them you are for facing these recent challenges head on. They tried their best. Even if it may not appear as they did. We all tried our best. School may have looked differently. Your work and home may have looked differently. You may have served cereal for breakfast, lunch and dinner some (or many days). And guess what? You rocked 2020!
As Thanksgiving approaches, please remember:
There is always, always, always, something for which to be thankful. Everyday that you are alive for example:) Hug those family members and friends. Be grateful for the sun even on a freezing cold day. Remind yourself that piles of dishes and laundry that need your attention mean you have food and clothes. Try to find ONE thing a day to remind yourself you are blessed and it's all going to be OK:) Namaste There is a wonderful song by Mr. Rogers that needs to be shared with every woman, man and child in my opinion. I really think if we focus on this song, and really teach it to our children, things may improve in our scary world.
Here it is: What Do You Do With the Mad That You Feel? (Song)Written by Fred Rogers | © 1968 Fred M. Rogers What do you do with the mad that you feel When you feel so mad you could bite? When the whole wide world seems oh, so wrong... And nothing you do seems very right? What do you do? Do you punch a bag? Do you pound some clay or some dough? Do you round up friends for a game of tag? Or see how fast you go? It's great to be able to stop When you've planned a thing that's wrong, And be able to do something else instead And think this song: I can stop when I want to Can stop when I wish I can stop, stop, stop any time. And what a good feeling to feel like this And know that the feeling is really mine. Know that there's something deep inside That helps us become what we can. For a girl can be someday a woman And a boy can be someday a man. Thank you Mr. Rogers! From my family to yours...may you find happiness and peace this holiday season. It's hard to remember this time of year should not be all about shopping and the stress that comes along with it. Find time to sip a favorite drink and read a story with your loved ones. Have a family night in. Take a winter walk and look for Rudolph:) Do what makes you happy! Peace. This Saturday November 28th is Small Business Saturday. Most people think this is a great way to support local businesses while getting some holiday shopping done. While that is true, there's more to it than shopping! I teach most of my kids and family yoga classes in small locally owned studios in my small town. Please consider supporting my small yoga business and those who own studios in our area. This Saturday at 10:30 am I will be holding a Family Yoga class at the Just Breathe Mindful Movement Studio in the Westwood Plaza of Johnstown PA. If you have family in visiting, please consider bringing them to this special class. We will have craft time, music, dancing, parachute games and more! Ages 3yrs-12 yrs. This is an active class so come dressed to move and play. We will end class by learning some simple ways for kids of any age (adults too!) to relax and unwind. Bring your little Turkey's to a fun filled class and come play yoga!!! You can register on line or pay at the door this day only! No it's not just you and your child. Many experience a case of nerves during big changes like back to school, or going to school for the first time. You can't be with your child all day. But what you can do is help your child cope with the stresses even when you are not there. Teach them a simple breathing technique!
Breathe in slowly and count slowly 1, 2, 3 Hold the breath and count 1, 2, 3 Breathe out slowly and count slowly 1, 2, 3 Repeat 3 ti mes. (more if necessary) Tell your self- It's going to be OK. I can do this! (parents too) I hope you all have a peaceful transition into the new school year! Come try a yoga class with us to master these breathing techniques...all ages!!! Try a kids yoga class! As we enjoy the mild weather, rain or shine, that comes with spring we may notice signs of new life. Flowers are blossoming, baby birds hatching, butterflies emerging. All of these signs remind us that the long winter is over and it may now be time for change. If you have even considered trying a kids yoga class...NOW is the time!!!
We are very busy this time of year with field trips, softball, soccer and homework. Why not take an hour to teach your kids how to relax and breathe and do so in a fun and active way they will enjoy. It is impossible to tell a young child to sit still. My yoga classes will encourage your child to find their inner calm in ways they can handle. Yes we blow bubbles, but they are learning to take long, slow, deep breaths too. Come try a class today! Have a wonderful Spring everyone! |
